Twenty-five

“Bitch, you think you can hurt my family and get away with it? You so much as go near my family again, I will slice you open myself.”

Hannah awoke clutching her waist and gasping for air. The nightmare happened again. Thankfully Cole released her wrists at night to help her sleep, but she only felt better when she saw him blocking the door and not the man from her apartment or Monica.

She licked the bland taste from her mouth and snuffed at the monitor attached to her. She stretched as best as she could and looked at him again.

He had a cute appearance when he wasn’t annoying the hell out of her. His hair deep enough to run her fingers through and his peach fuzz a bit on the thin side. His muscular tone was defined though his shirt and pants and this often made her wonder what women saw in a man like him.

He’s nothing like the men she’s normally attracted to. Tall linebacker types with no hair that you can’t get your arms around. Cole appeared to be more of a quarterback. He could handle being tackled but still needed protecting. She didn’t find his height, size or manner appealing.

She peeked at his waist and all sights south but he snuggled the blanket closer and covered himself. Tease. She smiled and dismissed the pleasant thought.

I could never be in a relationship with him. He is a detective. Only here to keep me from escaping and because my life is in danger.

She sighed and stretched her legs. Grateful for the many times Cole helped her, being mindful of her injury and overworking herself but she wanted to get out of bed on her own.

I do feel better, a little stronger and it’s only five feet to the bathroom.

She liked the cold floor on her feet but preferred it when Cole put her socks on before she got out of bed. The way he knelt before her, his soft hands gripping the bottom of her heel and the upwards gaze of his earthy eyes made her hot all over.

Again she dismissed the idea of being with the man she accidentally showed her naked ass to. Her gown won’t big enough to cover her trunk when she lost her grip and ‘mooned’ him.

She whipped around, and palmed her face, completely embarrassed but when she peeked through her fingers, the paper covered him. Maybe he didn’t see it?

She held onto the bed, glad to have made it, She exhaled a relaxing breath, still having a pinch of pain in her side, did what she needed, and performed her daily cleansing. The nurse kindly brushed her hair and pulled it into a ponytail.

She missed having it down on her shoulders with big curls. First thing I’m going to do, is soak in the tub for a week, get myself a pedicure, and a trip to the stylist.

She giggled lowly at the body scrub Cole brought for her, a light scent of petunias and honey, so she didn’t smell like a patient using the hospital soap.
